Some days feel like too much before they even begin.
Your mind is already racing.
There’s too much to do.
Too many things to remember.
And not enough energy to do any of it.
On those days, I’ve learned something important:
I don’t need to fix everything.
I just need to reset.
Not perfectly.
Not completely.
Just enough to get through the day.
Here are five things I come back to when I feel overwhelmed:
1. Sit in silence for a few minutes
No phone.
No noise.
No trying to “figure things out.”
Just sit.
Even five minutes of quiet can calm your mind more than scrolling ever will.
2. Make a short list (only 3 things)
When everything feels urgent, nothing feels manageable.
So I write down just three things that actually matter for the day.
Not ten. Not twenty.
Three.
If I get those done, the day counts.
3. Drink something before doing anything
Coffee, water, whatever you need.
But I’ve noticed when I jump straight into tasks without taking care of myself first, everything feels harder.
Pause. Sip. Breathe.
4. Step outside for a minute
Even if it’s just standing on the porch.
Fresh air does something simple but powerful… it reminds you the world is bigger than your to-do list.
5. Say a simple prayer
Not long. Not perfect.
Just something like:
“God, help me get through today.”
That’s enough.
You don’t need the right words.
You just need a moment of connection.
Overwhelm doesn’t mean you’re failing.
It usually means you’ve been carrying too much for too long.
So if today feels heavy…
don’t try to fix everything.
Just do one small thing that helps you breathe again.
That’s where peace starts.
