Health Goals, even if it’s not January!
“Health goals” does sound pretty cheesy. Why do people wait for January 1 to decide they want to make a change? I didn’t really wait for January 1. I had plans to make some changes around the start of the new year. I have children, and I have a grandson. I have several people counting on me so I need to do what I can to make sure I take care of myself for them. Plus, I want to feel better. Life has thrown some curveballs at me over the last month, but I’m taking everything in stride. I do pray. A lot! It’s almost March, and I’m finally doing something.
Why is it so hard to talk about?
I’m really skeptical about writing this because I know it’s going to open doors for people to start sending me messages to take these tabs twice a day, wrap my body, etc. I’ll need to wrap myself like a mummy!! There are so many weight loss programs out there. I’ve used several different programs myself in the past, and while they work for a short time, they usually cost arms and legs. I understand what needs to be done. Watch what you’re eating and exercise, right? Easy. I know what’s up. It’s just a matter of doing it. I’ve struggled with my weight for years. At one point, I lost 65 pounds. That was using shakes and my Urban Rebounder. I do still have that little apparatus in my closet. I’m just not sure if I want to go that route again.
I love that people are following their passion, and I wish I could support everyone in their side ventures. I simply am unable to afford it.
I know I need to lose weight. I have a goal in mind for June 1. I don’t want to mention it now incase I jinx myself, but I’ll let you know if I make it or not. I still blame “baby fat,” and my son is almost 3. Before that, I blamed “baby fat,” and my daughters are both teenagers. It’s easy to get caught up and feel very “blah” about what you’re eating and exercising, but I’m trying to stay motivated. I’ve started menu planning again. I’ll blog about that in a future post!
What I am doing
I found one of my old Leslie Sansone DVD’s so I have been setting aside time each day to walk. It’s 5 Mega Miles. I love her workout DVD’s because it means I can get my walk on and not have to walk outside. I’m really out of shape, and I don’t like walking where people can see me. I’m sure that’s weird, and I know I’m not supposed to care. But, I do. So walking inside is good. I’ve tried other workouts recently (Purewow videos), but I’m way way too out of shape for those. I find myself just standing there and watching them work out. I know my body used to move like their’s do but not anymore. I tell my body to do certain things, and I find myself just not moving. It’s bad!!
The other thing I’ve done is research a meal replacement shake mix. I’m horrible at counting calories. If anyone has a secret to counting calories and making a low-cal meal plan with easy meals that contain ingredients I can find at my local Kroger, please let me know! I used to drink Visalus shakes, but those are way too high. I also checked out a few other shake mixes, but they’re all super expensive as well. I know people say you can’t put a price on your health, but you really can. If you don’t have enough money, you don’t have enough money. I found an affordable alternative on Amazon. It’s a shake mix by Nature’s Bounty. I bought the Chocolate, and it’s quite tasty. I mix it with almond milk and 3 ice cubes and drink it for breakfast. I really like that it’s not only loaded with protein and vitamins, but it also contains probiotics. Gut health is important!
I’ve also started taking vitamins regularly. Again, after researching, I found the One a Day Women’s Petites. I am AWFUL about remembering to take them so I’ve made a reminder in my day planner so I don’t forget. I do want to get a higher quality vitamin once I can afford them, but until then, these are a great start. The way I see it, any vitamin is better than what I was taking before…which is no vitamin.
I really feel sluggish most of the time so that’s what I want to improve more than anything. I don’t have any other health problems. Not yet anyway. I want to try and prevent any future problems. I am 35 now. I’m not getting any younger!
I’d love to hear what you’re doing to help yourself get a little more healthy and start feeling better. Let me know in the comments!
